having grown up in southern california, just a short drive to malibu, i was raised in the city’s surf culture. it’s a culture that has stuck with me my entire life and being at the beach brings me to my happy place — there’s nothing like the sound of the ocean when it comes to bringing me peace of mind. i like incorporating those vibes into my home, so i thought it would be fun to bring that to my guest room and do a little makeover. society6 invited me to partner on an art gallery for the room and so i went to town, selecting a collection of images that embody that easy-going california lifestyle.
i didn’t want to go overboard with too many surf prints from society6 (there’s a lot to choose from!) so i did a mix of beachy photographs paired with vintage-inspired illustrations and some pastel graphics. i think it turned out just beautifully and adds a playful but soothing look to the room. i added a few elements to get the look just right — neutral bedding paired with a favorite crocheted throw, a palm frond, rattan lighting and a surfboard from st. franks that i’ve been dying to take out and learn to surf properly on! until then, i’ll just be enjoying this revamp of my guest room. cowabunga!
